It’s the time of year when we are either sending our children off to school for the first time, sending them back to school or returning to work ourselves after a break.

Either way, focus and attention may be an issue that we all need a little help with. For myself, returning back to work after a holiday is a struggle, with attention waning mid-afternoon on the first day. For our kids, it’s getting them started in the morning or motivating them to get stuck into the first assignments for the year. For our little ones, separation may be an issue if they are starting school for the first time. And how does Mum handle those emotions?

Here’s some essential oils and blends that can assist us all with back to school challenges:

Balance, the grounding blend. This is the must-have essential oil blend for all of us, but especially our little ones. Balance does just as the name implies – balances and grounds our children, calms them and allows them to overcome nervousness and stress. Begin the day by putting Balance on the bottom of their feet before school, make up a little roller ball for application during the day, and diffuse in the afternoon and evening for calming and soothing.

On Guard, the protective blend. Another must-have essential oil blend, this little bottle of amazing provides a natural and effective alternative for immune support. And our little ones will need all the immune support they can get when they get to school! Dilute into a roller and apply topically to the soles of their feet before bed time, and diffuse in their bedroom for aromatic support.

InTune, the focus blend. InTune is a blend of essential oils carefully selected for their ability to enhance and sustain a sense of focus. This blend supports efforts of those who have difficulty paying attention and staying on task. I dilute this blend for myself and my teenage daughter, roughly 1:2 ratio. Apply to the temples and back of neck when doing tasks that require concentration, or to wrists or back of hands and inhale deeply to promote a sense of clarity.

Peppermint: Invigorating, increased mental clarity, assists to wake up, get focused and concentrate.

Wild Orange: A versatile oil, it’s anti-bacterial, anti-depressant, energising, uplifting, can also act as a sedative by diffusing at bed time.

Rosemary: The number one memory booster, studies have shown that by smelling rosemary, you can increase your memory by up to 75%. Great for study and knowledge retention.

Lavender: The Swiss army knife of oils, Lavender can be used for pretty much everything, including cuts, scrapes, burns, relaxation and stress.

Frankincense: The king of oils, amazing for a wide range of applications including brain function, focus, stress, healing, skin issues and headaches. When in doubt, use Frankincense!

Tea Tree: Anti fungal, anti bacterial, great for cuts, scrapes and skin issues.
