The facts about Copaiba

Copaiba essential oil is very promising for a wide range of health benefits. You may have heard it has similarities with cannabis oil, and it does to some extent. But it’s completely legal. So what are the similarities? The interaction the oil has with the CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors. We all have cannabinoid receptors in our bodies and they crucial to our bodily functions.  Cannabinoid receptors are found in the brain, organs, tissues, glands and immune cells. In each tissue, the cannabinoid system performs different tasks, but the goal is always the same: homeostasis. We have two different types of receptors – CB1 and CB2.

CB1 activation, caused by THC (found in cannabis) and other similar cannabinoids, results in a psychoactive drug high. On the other hand, CB2 activation by Beta-caryophyllene (BCP), a sesquiterpene compound known for its unique ability to interact with CB2 but not CB1 receptors has produced results showing promising therapeutic benefits. Like many other cannabinoids and terpenes, BCP targets the body’s CB2 receptors, ignoring the CB1 receptors that are involved in supplying the high associated with cannabis and, more specifically, the THC cannabinoid. Copaiba essential oil has the ability to deliver major benefits without giving you the high.

Copaiba essential oil contains BCP, which is the main compound in cannabis that makes it therapeutic for pain relief. It interacts with CB2 receptors (endocrine and immune systems) without negatively interacting with CB1 receptors (brain and central nervous systems). It contains the highest amount of BCP of any known essential oil, at 55%.

I read on one site that Copaiba can be used for arthritis pain, but none of the info here or elsewhere mentions this. Is the effect immediate, or does it build up?
Also, does Copiaba help with insomnia, and how quickly does it take effect?
Cannabis capsules taken internally need careful timing – it’s quite tricky. Can take up to two hours before you feel anything, and according to a friend who uses them for sleep, must be taken on an empty stomach.

Hi Julie, we need to keep our language compliant and avoid using specific medical conditions, however, I have heard people have used this oil for that condition. I use Copaiba in my sleep blend, along with other oils and it works very well for me.
