Hangover hacks for the festive season

Hangovers – most of us have had at least one at some time in our adult life. I’ve had my fair share and have tackled them in many different ways (usually involving a greasy breakfast, orange juice and occasionally, a hair of the dog).

However, my go-to hangover hack these days is my essential oil box. Here’s a few ideas for you to get you through the silly season.

Smart and Sassy, the metabolic blend:

This powerhouse blend works best when taken before bed in a big glass of water, and then again in the morning. A few drops in a glass of water will do. Smart and Sassy contains Grapefruit Peel, Lemon Peel, Peppermint Plant, Ginger Root, and Cinnamon Bark essential oils, some of nature’s best natural remedies.

Grapefruit essential oil:

Grapefruit mentally uplifting and refreshing, rich in antioxidants which help boost an immune system depleted by drinking. Grapefruit is also well known for treating migraines – apply directly to the temples and forehead.

Juniper essential oil:

Juniper is known for its detoxifying and cleansing properties, however, it can also help to clear and stimulate the mind. Apply Juniper with a carrier oil to the soles of your feet to assist with cleansing.

Lavender essential oil:

Lavender is a wonderful healer and has many therapeutic actions. Lavender is known for its ability to calm and balance the body, mind and nervous system. Diffuse in a dark room, or apply a few drops to a cool washcloth and place over your forehead.

Topical Liver Detox:
5 drops fennel
3 drops lavender
5 drops sandalwood
10 drops lemon

Blend with a carrier oil and apply to the liver area and slowly massage in. You can also apply to the back of the neck and massage in for added relief.

Hangover Relief Mocktail:
Tall glass of cool water
3 drops Wild Orange
3 drops Lemon
3 drops Peppermint

Drop essential oils in empty glass and top with cool water. Sip over the next 30 to 45 minutes, followed by additional fresh, cool water to help cleanse, soothe and detoxify.

Common sense hangover hacks:

  • Drink moderately – get your buzz, then stop
  • Drink water with your alcohol
  • Eat before and during your drinking session
  • Finish the night with a tall glass of water
  • Most importantly – enjoy yourself, but not so much that you don’t remember the night!
